EIGHT areas of Warrington have seen a rise in their coronavirus infection rates over the past week.

This is despite the ongoing national lockdown and the town’s vaccination programme, which is progressing at pace.

The majority of areas in the borough have seen their rates of new Covid-19 cases fall or remain low, demonstrating that strict measures to stop the virus from spreading are working.

But rates have risen in Blackbrook, Hulme, Latchford, Oakwood and Gorse Covert, Penketh and Cuerdley, Hood Manor and Sankey Bridges, Lymm and Appleton.

Thanks to an interactive map published on the Government’s online coronavirus dashboard, we can also see the number of cases by area.

At the time of writing, the map displayed the number and rate of new cases in each area of Warrington in the seven days up to February 13.

Blackbrook had the highest number with 42 new cases, followed by Kingswood and Whittle Hall (27) and Hulme (24).
