RESIDENTS who were evacuated from a flooded mental health treatment and recovery centre in Dallam will receive special care parcels thanks to generous donations.

Lea Court Independent Hospital, which cares for adults with mental health conditions, is located in Hawleys Lane - one of the Warrington areas worst hit by Storm Christoph.

Jacqui Hampson, whose son is one of Lea Court's residents, and her daughter Katie Dodd wanted to help give them a sense of normality when they are able to return.

"There's a lot of groups raising money for Warrington residents, but I wanted to do something specifically for Lea Court," Jacqui explained.

"They have all been moved out to different places and as you can imagine, they all suffer from mental health issues and it's all very scary for them.

"My son is in this facility and has been evacuated and sent to Wigan.

"They were flooded at 3am, but had to wait until 11am to be evacuated by boat - it was a very traumatic time.

"We got a call to say that he dealt with it quite well and that he was in a safe place."

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they attended Lea Court on Thursday and rescued people in small groups by boat so they could be rehoused.

Jacqui continued: "I would now like to try and raise some funds for when they are back together in their safe place, and to help replace all the personal items that they have lost.

"My daughter and I are going to make up parcels for the 17 men and seven women for when they return to welcome them back."

The parcels will contain essential items such as bedding and towels.

Warrington Guardian:

Liz Cotterill and her team at Asda Foundation has already donated towels, snacks and personal hygiene items to the cause.

All money raised will be divided equally between Lea Court residents.
