JOE Philbin has committed his long-term future to his hometown club.

Warrington Wolves have confirmed that the prop has signed a new three-year extension to his current deal with the club.

It means the 26-year-old – an Ireland, England Knights and Great Britain representative – is now tied to The Halliwell Jones Stadium until the end of 2024.

Having joined the club aged 15, former Culcheth Eagles junior Philbin came through the club’s scholarship and academy to make his first-team debut in 2014.

Having established himself in the team under Steve Price, he has now made 136 appearances for the club.

He helped The Wire lift the Challenge Cup in 2019, scoring the winning try in the semi-final win over Hull FC and the opener in the memorable Wembley victory over St Helens that followed.

Price himself says he is looking forward to seeing Philbin’s development continue.

“I’m delighted that Joe has signed a new long-term deal with his hometown club,” he said.

“He’s a very popular member of our playing squad and is held in high regard by all of his team-mates and coaches.

“He is continually growing as a player and as a leader within our football team.

“He’s one of our own, a local junior who came through our system who loves the club. For him to commit his long-term future to Warrington is great for our town.

“There’s still plenty more to come from Joe and I’m looking forward to seeing his continued development in the years to come."
