FLOODING continues to affect many Warrington roads due to heavy rain brought by Storm Christoph.

Flood alerts have been issued across the borough, including Lingley Green, Great Sankey, Sankey Bridges, Orford, Callands and Burtonwood, while a red warning is in place for Dallam.

Warrington Police has taken to social media to warn drivers about trying to pass through flooded roads.

Writing on Facebook, the team said: "Due to heavy rain, there is standing water on many of the local roads.

"If you are making an essential journey, please be careful. Please also turn your headlights on.

"If you see a flooded road please do not try to drive through it - you don't know what debris is under the water or how deep it is.

"It may take a few minutes more to find an alternative route, but it will be safer than getting stuck in the water."

The red flood warning for Dallam reads: "River levels are forecast to rise at the Higham Avenue river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall.

"Consequently, flooding of property is expected. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 12 to 24 hours."

Meanwhile, an amber flood alert for the town warns: "A prolonged period of heavy rain associated with Storm Christoph will cause river levels to rise at the Causey Bridge river gauge and consequently flooding of property or roads and farmland is possible.

"We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around Black, Barkers, Windle and Whittle Brooks and their tributaries."

Areas of flooding have also been reported in Alder Lane in Burtonwood, North Park Brook Road in Callands, and Old Liverpool Road in Sankey Bridges.
