A MAN has been slapped with a fine after he drove more than 65 miles with two pals from different households on a trip to see his girlfriend over the weekend.

South Yorkshire Police said the vehicle from Cheshire was stopped as it left Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on Sunday, January 17.

The owner of the Peugeot 207, as well as the two passengers, were issued fixed penalty notice fines.

The force said: “Vehicle from Cheshire stopped leaving Sheffield, driver had been to see his girlfriend, bringing two mates from two different households with him.

"Exactly the sort of unneeded social mixing we need to avoid. Fixed penalty notices issued to all three and the MOT had run out.”

Last week, British Transport Police were called to Acton Bridge train station after receiving reports of two men trainspotting. 

British Transport Police said: "Trainspotting is not an essential activity and you shouldn’t be leaving home to do it during lockdown.”
