A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a 14-year-old girl was hit by a car.

Emergency services were called to City Road, Windlehurst in St Helens on Tuesday afternoon at around 4.45pm to reports of a collision involving a red Renault Scenic and a 14-year-old girl pedestrian.

The girl was taken to hospital where she was treated for serious but not life threatening head injuries, say police.

Officers found the vehicle in Warrington a short time later.

They arrested a 38-year-old man from Warrington on suspicion of dangerous driving, drug driving, failing to stop, failing to report, and causing serious injury through dangerous driving.

A section of City Road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and later re-opened.

Sergeant Ryan Lowry said: “A young girl was harmed in this collision and will no doubt be left shaken as she recovers in hospital. I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, has dash camera footage or CCTV to contact us as soon as possible.”
