CORONAVIRUS case rates in Warrington have continued to rise in the latest figures from Public Health England.

The most recently available data showed that, in the seven days leading up to January 7, 1,631 positive Covid-19 tests were recorded in the town.

This is a rate of 776.6 for every 100,000 residents, the 76th highest in the country.

By comparison, 1,101 new cases were recorded in the week before New Year’s Eve – or 524.3 per 100,000.

Of the 315 local authority areas in England, 222 – or 70 per cent – have seen a rise in case rates in the latest statistics.

As of Monday, Warrington Hospital had 187 coronavirus inpatients including 25 in intensive care.

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Covid-19 death toll now stands at 338.
