PLANS for a new block of flats have been approved, despite concerns from residents.

Warrington Borough Council has granted planning permission for the three-storey block of 10 sheltered accommodation apartments on Dover Road in Latchford.

The 562sq m site was previously home to a detached house, which has since been demolished.

It is anticipated that Grappenhall-based JR PP Ltd’s development of one-bedroom units will create one full-time job and one part-time job.

Application documents stated: “The site is vacant and was formerly occupied by a detached house and double garage, which have now both been demolished.

“The application seeks planning approval for a residential apartment block within a predominately residential neighbourhood.

“We believe the submitted plans demonstrate it is possible to create a high-quality unique development with architectural merit, which is both well considered and viable.

“In addition, we believe the proposed development can make a positive contribution to the area without adversely affecting the amenity of any neighbouring properties.”

Some residents had raised concerns over the loss of privacy and light for neighbouring properties as a result of the scheme, which was described as ‘overbearing, out of scale and out of character’.

But other said it would be ‘preferable to a boarded-up site’.

And the council gave the green light to the development on Tuesday, December 1.
