THE number of patients being cared for at Warrington Hospital for coronavirus is still higher now that it was during the first wave.

As of this afternoon, Friday, there are currently 148 patients in the hospital with Covid-19, Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed.

Of this total, 12 are in the intensive care unit.

At the peak of the first wave on April 12, the Lovely Lane site was caring for 124 Covid-positive patients, with 12 in ICU.

Since the start of the pandemic, WHH Trust has tested 41,946 people for the virus, with 2,938 testing positive.

To date, 885 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, but sadly, the trust’s coronavirus death toll stands at 260.
