PLANS to allow a takeaway in Lymm to extend its opening hours have been rejected.

Chickenville opened on The Cross in the village earlier this year. It is located next to Sainsbury’s.

But the owners wanted to extend the hours to open earlier in the week and all day on Sundays, until 11pm.

It had proposed staying open until midnight on Sundays but this was amended to 11pm following negotiations with the council.

The plans sought to extend the opening hours to 11am to midnight Mondays to Thursdays, to 11am to 12.30am Fridays and Saturdays, and 11am to 11pm on Sundays and public holidays.

The application came before the development management committee during its virtual meeting on Wednesday.

Cllr Anna Fradgley had objected to the scheme on the basis that the proposals are in a quiet village centre, with close neighbouring residents.

Committee member Cllr Peter Carey said: “I think this has gone a little too far in what is being asked for.

“The question I ask myself is when the original application came in seeking approval, had these hours been declared, then would we have been inclined to approve it or reject it?

“I suspect the level of objection would have been much higher had these hours been stated at the outset

“So my feeling is to come back a short time later and seek an extension after the approval has been given is not really fair on the residents – and I sympathise with the residents on this occasion.”

The scheme was refused on the grounds of it having a detrimental impact on residential amenity.
