SAINTS three-time Grand Final winner Tommy Makinson has been awarded a Testimonial year in 2021 as he heads into his 10th season in the Red Vee.
The former Wigan St Judes junior has gone from strength to strength in his time at Saints and was rewarded with the Golden Boot for his performances at international level.
Makinson was understandably delighted to have his 10th season at the club marked in this way.
He said: “I’m delighted to have been awarded a testimonial year at the Saints. I’ve been at this club since I was a kid and I love playing here.
"Winning our back to back grand final on Friday was something I willl never forget and I can’t wait for next year now.”
He started his Saints journey in the Academy in 2008 climbed through the ranks to make his first team debut in 2011 against Salford and has not looked back since.
He scored 11 tries in his debut season and was given the right wing berth for the 2011 Grand Final against Leeds Rhinos.
Makinson begain gaining a regular wing in 2012 and lit up the crowd with his acrobatic finishes.
His performances caught the eye and the England Knights called him up in 2013.
In 2014 he crossed the whitewash 29 times but there was one in particular that was crucial.
He plucked Paul Wellens' kick from the air in the 2014 Grand Final to seal the win for Saints.
Makinson's career went up a notch as did his prowess for scoring tries in tight corners.
And he passed the landmark of 100 tries for the Saints.
Makinson hit the world stage in 2018 with a sensational try for England in the victory over New Zealand in Denver, Colorado.
And it got better in the autumn test matches against the Kiwis with a hat trick in the second test at Anfield. The performances here earned the Golden Boot award as the International Player of the Year for 2018.
The 2019 saw Makinson's set starting as much as his finishing being a key part of a a second Grand Final success with his club.
He finished the 2019 campaign as the top try scorer in Super League.
He won his third Super League ring last week with his drop goal attempt re-bounding off the sticks before Jack Welsby grabbed the headlines.
He has made a total of 244 career appearances, scoring 138 tries and over 800 points.
