THE fundraising efforts of staff at Amazon’s Great Sankey fulfilment centre has provided a boost for young carers in Merseyside.

Barnardo’s Action with Young Carers in Wirral received a £1,000 cash donation and a donation of products worth £1,000 from the Amazon team to help increase the reach of its services across the region.

The charity provides a support service for young carers and young adult carers who care for a family member who is ill, disabled, has mental health problems or a substance addiction.

The service carries out assessments with young carers to ensure the whole family is receiving the right level of care from a range of agencies.

Support plans, agreed with the young person and their family, are put in place and reviewed to meet the young person’s needs and reduce the negative impact of their caring role.

The donation is part of a longstanding relationship between Amazon and Barnardo’s.

At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Amazon donated £10,000 to Barnardo’s to help the charity during the early stages of lockdown.

In late 2019, Amazon also donated £30,000 and hosted STEM Christmas parties for children supported by the charity in dozens of Amazon buildings across the country.

Speaking about the donation, Amazon Warrington site leader Priyanka Bernard said: “The team at Amazon is passionate about supporting the young people in our community, and we jumped at the chance to make this donation to Barnardo’s Action with Young Carers service.

“The work they do is needed now more than ever, and they have our full support as they continue to have a positive impact on children across Merseyside.”

Paula Hume, team manager at Barnardo’s Action with Young Carers, added: “The impact of Covid-19 continues to be deeply felt by children in the Merseyside community, and it is fantastic to get this support once again from the Amazon team.

“The financial and product donations are hugely appreciated by everyone at Barnardo’s and will enable us to continue offering services to the young people who need us most.”
