SINGERS in Warrington have added their voices to a single created in lockdown to lift spirits and support children's charities this Christmas.

Choir members from PopVox have recorded vocals for 'Sing It Out' remotely in support of Childline and NSPCC's online event 'Merry Little Christmas'.

The live streamed celebration on December 10 will be headed up by the likes of Leona Lewis, Martin Freeman, The D-Day Darlings, magician Ben Hanlin and Spice Girl Geri Horner.

And the specially produced track was written by PopVox director, Emma Nowell, before around 150 singers were involved in rehearsing and recording it.

Emma said: "We’re delighted to be launching our single with all profits going to Childline. The song is about hope, friendship and helping each other during this difficult time, something I’m sure that we can all relate to.

"Singing has many proven health benefits, both physically and mentally.

"Our weekly rehearsals, every Wednesday evening – whether online or at our rehearsal venue at Stockton Heath Primary School when restrictions have allowed – provide 90 minutes where members can switch off and leave their troubles at the door.

"If Sing It Out could chart then it would not only be raising funds for the wonderful charities, Childline and NSPCC, but it would underline the message that we’re all feeling now throughout the world.

"To keep holding on and to find strength in friendship, in each other and in music is something that we can all relate to and we hope the song lifts spirits and brings a smile to people’s faces."

PopVox has missed out on many of its events this year due to the pandemic such as Warrington Inspiration Awards, Netball World Cup Opening Ceremony and Liverpool One Christmas light switch-on.

But the choir has been busy this year nonetheless. As well as producing the single, the singers have raised more than £3,500 for the NHS with a charity online gig, attended virtual West End workshops with leading musical theatre producers and launched PopVox Records.

Emma added: "Our aim has been to let our rehearsals be a tonic in what has been a really difficult time."
