A HOUSE party was shut down by police on Saturday night due to coronavirus lockdown breaches.

Cheshire Police were called to an unnamed address in the town  after receiving reports of the gathering.

Fines were issued to six people for breaches of Covid-19 measures as a result.

A force spokesman said: “Last night, (Saturday) we issued fines to six people in Warrington for breaches of Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

“Officers were called to an address following reports of a party taking place.

“They engaged with people at the property and explained the current restrictions.

“In the end, they had no choice but to enforce the regulations due to this blatant breach and fines were issued to four men and two women from different households who were inside at the time.

“We don’t want to stop anyone from enjoying themselves, but we all need to stick to the rules and help to reduce the spread of the virus – we will always engage, explain and encourage people to follow the regulations, but sometimes enforcement action is necessary.

“Thankfully, the vast majority of people are sticking to the rules and we urge you to continue to do so.”
