A COMMUNITY project to help people during the pandemic has raised almost £10,000.

Churches Together in Lymm and District (CTLD) have been working alongside excellent local initiatives such as Lymm’s Leave No-one Behind community project.

And it has seen a weekly collection for local foodbanks, almost £10,000 in donations to charities, and weekly phone calls to lonely and vulnerable adults in need.

A food collection on Monday nights contributed to record quantities of food being delivered to Warrington Foodbank and Oasis Foodbank in Gorton Manchester as church-goers and non church-goers together stepped up to help record numbers of people in need.

“With thousands across the country now facing redundancy, hardship or just an unexpected bill, food parcels delivered by Foodbanks can be a literal life-saver for families in crisis”, said Rachael Aldersley, Team Leader, Warrington Foodbank. “The support and kindness we see from individuals and organisations like Churches Together is a great encouragement to our team.”

The churches also opened a new fund for individuals to contribute to voluntarily which has raised just under £10,000 in six months. Much of this has gone to charities working with disadvantaged groups in some of the poorest places on the planet – even before Covid.

Money has also been given to the homeless shelter in Warrington (Room At The Inn) and The Hideaway Project in Partington.

Lastly, the CTLD group has been assisting Lymm’s Leave No-one Behind project with day-to-day tasks and telephone calls to individuals who require meal support or help with running errands.

Chris Goswami, Associate Minister of Lymm Baptist Church who brought the ministers together from Lymm, Thelwall and High Legh to work on a Covid response explained: “From the start, our vision, motivated by our faith, was to focus help on three areas: our immediate vicinity, the surrounding areas of Warrington / Manchester, and the developing world. Whether we belong to one church or no church we are all connected to one another, and Covid, awful though it is, has brought that out in some wonderful ways”.
