A COMMUNITY hero who was instrumental in bringing Atherton Carnival back has celebrated being awarded his British Empire Medal.
Brian Seddon, from Atherton, was recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours list for services to the community.
On Friday, October 30 he was presented with the medal on his doorstep by Melanie Bryan OBE DL deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, instead of attending a presentation ceremony at Buckingham Palace which was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Brian also brings the annual nativity parade to town, runs a community café and leads clubs around Atherton.
