THERE were 332 recorded cases of coronavirus in the borough in the latest daily figures.

Public Health England figures show that 332 people were confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 by 9am on Friday, October 30 in Wigan borough.

This compares with 419 on Thursday and 335 the day before.

The health body is now including Pillar Two tests – those carried out in the wider community – alongside Pillar One tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

Wigan borough saw a weekly rate of infection of 656.3 per 100,000, as 2,157 cases were recorded in the seven days up to October 24. This was the fourth highest rate in England.

The region was placed under Tier Three restrictions last week. England could be set to go under a national lockdown from next week, according to reports.

The overall rate of infection in Wigan borough now stands at 3,214 cases per 100,000 people, higher than the England average of 1,492.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 24,405 over the period, to 989,745.

​Wigan borough's cases were among the 210,230 recorded across the North West, a figure which rose by 5,080 over the 24-hour period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, asymptomatic, have recovered and those that have died.
