AN APPLICATION has been submitted to the council seeking permission to turn a former village fruit and vegetable store into a meat, cheese and wine shop.

A bid for a certificate of lawfulness has been drawn up by applicant Scott Anderson for the use of the former Rainford Farm Shop on Ormskirk Road.

The proposed shop would be called So Far So Good.

In a statement drawn up by planning agents RJG Architecture, it says the client has been:renting the premises for more than two years.

It says: "It is proposed to provide the community with access to a piece of the city centre lifestyle".

Plans add that "specialist food and drinks, primarily organic wines, premium meats and cheese, paired with a rustic urban environment".

The statement says: "The client is a keen supporter of independent local produce.

"In addition to operating as a shop, customers will have the option to enjoy the produce in house in the small seating area to the front, ancillary to the main shop".

The plans also say: "The shop has been designed to create an open, minimal space and will display only a moderate number of each individual products.

"So Far So Good are expecting sales to be predominantly from their online subscription service and pay per bottle model".

Plans add there are 12 parking spaces to the front and 15 to the side and rear between the six shops in the area, which would be "more than adequate for expected number of customers".

The proposed opening hours are 10am to 10pm while current coronavirus restrictions on hospitality are in place, with this to be extended to until 11pm on a Friday and Saturday once Covid measures are lifted.

A determination deadline has been set on the application for December 2.
