NEARLY four months of roadworks are planned on Winwick Road.

The A49 will be closed overnight between Warrington Fire Station and the junction with Long Lane and Hawleys Lane from Monday, November 2, until the end of February next year.

Closures will be in place due to resurfacing work from 7pm until 1am.

But restrictions will be lifted between December 14 and January 17 due to the Christmas break.

Work will be carried out on the northbound section before Christmas, before continuing on the southbound carriageway in the New Year.

Diversions will be in place via Midland Way, Froghall Lane, Priestley Street, Sankey Way and Cromwell Avenue as a result.

Jubilee Way will also be affected as part of a scheme to extend the traffic island at its junction with Winwick Road.

No roadworks will take place on Saturday and Sunday nights during this 18-week period.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesman said: “Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, and vehicular access will be under the control of the principal contractor.

“Cones, barriers and signs are there for a reason – to protect our workers from danger and to keep the public safe.

“We urge drivers to pay close attention when driving near roadworks.”
