6 of the Best: Cake makers in Warrington – as chosen by you

But those people have probably not eaten cakes and sweet treats by Warrington's baking community.

Our latest reader-led '6 of the Best' feature has been hard fought with more than 800 nominations for around 60 cake makers – ranging from those who bake-at-home with panache to those who run their own shops and eateries.

There will be a different category for '6 of the Best' each week with the aim of supporting Warrington businesses in incredibly challenging times.

We were blown away by the number of entries for the best places for cakes and bakes to finally reveal the below six winners.

1. Cakes by Lauren

This Great Sankey baker has made countless special occasions even more memorable with her custom-made celebration cakes and cupcakes.

Customers described her cakes as a 'work of art' and praised her attention to detail. She even created a Gogglebox-themed cupcake board.

One said: "An amazing and talented businesswoman based in Great Sankey. Her cakes not only look fantastic they taste amazing. Lauren can create a cake for any occasion – look at her Facebook page and you will see how many superb cakes she’s made and how happy her customers are."

Another added: "Truly sumptuous and handcrafted – amazing attention to detail and stunning bespoke designs."

2. Thelwall Bakehouse

Thelwall Bakehouse's motto is 'No occasion is ever too big or too small for cake'.

The independent business mainly serves Thelwall and Lymm and specialises in celebration and wedding cakes.

One voter said it made his wedding day even more memorable.

He added: "Elegant wedding cake, bespoke name placement biscuits for the day. On top of that we've had many personalised unique birthday cakes, with plenty more still to come.

"Could not recommend highly enough, unrivalled in every way."

Another contributor said: "These cakes are absolutely fabulous and taste amazing. Nothing is too much trouble when it comes to the design and fillings of the cakes."

3. Moon and Muffin Bakehouse

Fearnhead's Moon and Muffin specialises in all the 'Bs' – buttercream cakes, brownies and blondies (a brownie-style vanilla based dessert bar).

A customer said: "I’ve got an unhealthy obsession with brownies and have spent years and a lot of money trying to find the perfect brownie – I’ve definitely found it in Moon and Muffin Bakehouse. Hannah’s are the best."

Another added: "You can really tell she bakes everything with love."

4. White Lace Cakes

White Lace Cakes has been an ongoing success story in the past couple of years.

It has been a bit of a whirlwind for Lindsay Albon since she was made redundant from her job of 11 years at TalkTalk.

But it proved to be a blessing in disguise as it gave her the push to expand her wedding cake business that she ran from home.

After a successful Warrington Market unit, Lindsay can now be found in Old Market Square.

A contributor said: "Lindsay made us cupcakes years ago for a birthday when she just started out and we always go now.

"She also made us our very special baby shower cakes and we still pop in for brownies still even though we moved to Manchester.

"We tried a freak shake a few weeks ago and it was amazing. The service is always perfect and the shop is beautiful and welcoming."

5. Orford Perk

The School Road dessert cafe specialises in ridiculously decadent treats such as cookies dough, ice cream trays, sundaes and crepes with current specials like the crushed Maltesers cheesecake and Ferrero Rocher cheesecake.

Voters talked about the 'amazing taste', 'unlimited options' and value for money.

One said: "You can taste the quality in the ingredients. When you compare their price to the quality of food produced, it's second to none.

"Believe me, I'm a massive food lover – I've tried everything from everywhere and no one else comes close."

6. Cullen Cakes

The home of cupcakes and spectacularly detailed celebration cakes – always made to order – Cullen Cakes can be found in Culcheth.

Voters mentioned Georgia Cullen's 'great ideas' and 'amazing detail'.

One said: "The fluffiest, softest cakes made with love. She does mine for all occasions and she never fails."

Another added: "Absolutely delicious. One of the things I look forward to the most on my birthday are her tasty cakes. Georgia is so talented. I always say to her: 'How do you get it perfect every time?'"
