WARRINGTON restaurants have had a lot to put up with in the last six months including a lockdown and now a curfew.

But a diner having an aversion to a tapas and cocktail bar owner's Burberry trainers has to be a first.

A review on Tripadvisor, which has since been removed, described Maison Fleur in Stockton Heath as an 'absolute disaster of a restaurant' despite it having a score of 4.5 out of 5 on the travel website.

It said: "Pathetic. I feel sorry for people that think this is a good dining experience. The food was almost as tasteless as the owner's designer trainers."

The customer went on to describe the atmosphere of the Walton Road restaurant, which is adorned with flowers throughout.

He added: "We arrived to a bare and clinical decor. It was cold, both literally and metaphorically. I literally couldn't take my jacket off, I was freezing.

Warrington Guardian:

"Our server was pleasant however. He advised that their portions were larger than you would come to expect in any other tapas style restaurant.

"Perhaps he was trying to justify the extortionate pricing on the menu. Whatever the case the portions were small – £10 plus got a slither of pork belly.

"The menu lacked the usual favourites and the ones it had were far removed from what you'd expect from any other quality tapas restaurant.

"The dishes were bland and lacked flavour or imagination."

Owner Kenny Valentin replied to the customer saying there were no hard feelings as the review made him laugh.

He told the Guardian: "In my restaurant we are delivering what we believe to be a good experience in terms of food, drink and atmosphere.

"I understand that it may not be perfect for everybody and I am definitely happy to get negative feedback in order to rectify my service but I thought comparing my food to my Burberry shoes was quite wonderful until I realise that it was sarcastic."

Kenny also tagged in Gary Usher, formerly of Sticky Walnut in Chester, who is renowned for his withering replies to customers on Tripadvisor.

On Twitter he said: "Make sure when you welcome him you don’t wear a Burberry outfit. It sounds like the man doesn’t really like quality."
