A NEW engineering training centre is set to be opened in Birchwood.

Warrington Borough Council has approved an application for planning permission in order to convert a vacant unit on Eddington Way in Birchwood Park.

This will allow British Engineering Services to create a training centre at the site, resulting in seven new jobs.

Submission documents stated: “The application site is proposed to be used for a training centre to support the operations above for new engineer recruits and existing engineer upskilling and training courses for selected customers, enabling BES Ltd to grow its operations.

“At present, current training is delivered on an ad hoc basis, where existing customers will allow a trainee to visit.

“This process is currently inefficient given the rate of growth of BES Ltd and the need to recruit engineers to meet demand.

“The facility will provide seven new roles within the company, which will in turn support the company’s recruitment activity and allow them to recruit and train more people per year – which will ultimately create more jobs.”

The council granted its consent on Friday, September 25.
