THESE haunting pictures show all that remains of the former site of Grappenhall Hall School after it closed five years ago.

The school for pupils with special educational needs moved from its site in Church Lane to Green Lane in Padgate in September 2015.

Warrington Guardian:

At the time there was a debate in the area about how the site should be developed with talk in 2016 of it becoming new homes or even a boutique hotel.

Warrington Borough Council asked the Department of Education for permission to dispose of the land, either by selling it or developing it for another use.

Warrington Guardian:

But since then the derelict building has been largely forgotten.

In June 2017 the council told us it was 'currently reviewing what can be done' with the school grounds with 'no definitive plans' in place.

Warrington Guardian:

Then in July 2019 we reported calls to improve security at the Church Lane site which has been blighted by anti-social behaviour, with concerned borough and parish councillors monitoring the situation.

A more recent suggestion for the transformation of the land has been new country park which fits in with the local plan.

Warrington Guardian:

Jake Parr, who explores derelict buildings, supplied these pictures during his visit to the site.

Although the building is deteriorating fast with water damage evident, relics from school life remain like a sports medal, decorated noticeboards, an electric organ and slogans and artwork on the walls.

Warrington Guardian:

Jake is also an actor who has appeared in the likes of Coronation Street and Brassic.

He said: "I've been planning to explore this school for a while now. I love bringing history back to life with my pictures and videos."
