WARRINGTON saw 36 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the latest daily statistics.

The borough saw another 36 people test positive for COVID-19 up to 9am on Saturday, September 19 in the latest Public Health England data.

This is slightly less than the 42 cases confirmed in the town the previous day.

The health body includes in the statistics Pillar two tests – those carried out in the wider community – alongside Pillar one tests, which are analysed in NHS Hospitals or PHE laboratories.

In the seven days to September 14, there were 211 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Warrington with the town’s rate of new cases at 100.5 per 100,000 people for that period.

On Friday, it was confirmed that the borough has been placed be under new restrictions in a bid to halt rising rates.

Businesses operating in the hospitality sector will be required to shut between 10pm and 5am, with table service only.

While Warrington Borough Council had previously warned residents not to visit other people’s homes earlier in the week, this will now be imposed by regulation.

The measures will come into place on Tuesday, September 22.

The latest figures mean that 1,897 people in Warrington have been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The total rate of infection in Warrington since the start of the outbreak now stands at 903.3 cases per 100,000 people, higher than the England average of 598.

Cumulative counts include asymptomatic cases, patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
