A WALTON pub is the latest to be hit by the coronavirus after a member of staff tested positive for Covid-19.

The Stag in Chester Road was informed on Thursday that a member of the team, who had already started self isolating, had the virus.

No one else at the pub restaurant and microbrewery is thought to be affected because they worked alone in a non-customer facing role but a deep clean has taken place.

A statement on Facebook said: "We understand that this may lead to increased anxiety and we wanted to reassure you of the steps we are taking to manage the situation.

"The individual who has tested positive, works alone, in a non-customer facing role. At the point of the positive test, they had already been self-isolating for several days as advised by NHS Test and Trace, therefore, under the government guidelines, no further action is necessary.

"We have undertaken deep cleaning and reviewed our risk assessment, as advised by our health and safety consultants.

"We take this opportunity to remind all our guests of the importance of monitoring their own health so that early action can be taken if symptoms of coronavirus develop."
