TWO classes at a primary school in Orford remain closed after three members of the school community tested positive for coronavirus.

St Margaret's CE Primary School in School Road is closed for a year one and a year six class following advice from Public Health England.

Children are able to return on Monday if they have not had any symptoms during the closure.

All other children should be attending school as normal.

Meanwhile, a reception class was closed at the school yesterday, Wednesday, but has reopened today following an assessment.

Christopher Metcalfe, executive head teacher, said: "We have been preparing for the return of pupils and it was a delight to see them back in school.

"It is disappointing to have to close two classes as a precautionary measure so soon after re-opening, but staff and pupils’ welfare is our top priority.

"Our teaching team is well prepared to deliver remote learning and we look forward to children returning at the earliest opportunity."

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson, said: "We are aware of the situation and are working closely with the school at this time.

"We are confident that the school has robust plans and safety measures in place to protect children and staff while in school.

"It is vital that everyone continues to follow the government’s guidance on social distancing, good hand hygiene, and wearing face coverings, to keep ourselves and others as safe as possible.

"If you have any symptoms, no matter how mild, please book a test immediately."
