WARRINGTON Hospital has confirmed its first coronavirus-related death in three weeks.

The patient died on Monday, September 14, after testing positive for Covid-19.

This is the first death related to coronavirus at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 21 days, the last occurring on August 24.

It brings the total number of coronavirus deaths across the two sites to date to 140.

The news comes amid a rising number of cases in the town.

A total of 221 people tested positive for the virus in Warrington in the seven day period leading up to September 12.

It currently has the ninth highest rated of infection in England, with 105.2 cases per 100,000 residents.

Nationally, a further 11 deaths among confirmed coronavirus patients were reported today - with three of these coming in the north west.

They were aged between 69 and 98, and all had known underlying health conditions.

Across England, the death toll now stands at 29,687.
