A ROBBER brandishing a knife and a ‘canister of acid’ raided a convenience store on Sunday night.

The McColl’s on Admirals Road in Birchwood was targeted by an ‘unknown man’ shortly after 8.30pm on September 13.

It is believed that he was in possession of a knife and a canister that he claimed contained acid.

He demanded money and attempted to enter the till, but was stopped by a member of staff – who suffered minor injuries to his hand.

The offender then fled the scene.

Police have described the suspect as being white, between 5ft7 and 5ft10 and of average build and was wearing a black face mask, a dark hoodie, dark trousers and light-coloured trainers.

Officers have appealed for information from members of the public in connection with the incident.

Detective constable Jill Peggs said: “This incident has not only left the member of staff with slight injuries, but also incredibly shaken.

“We are doing all we can to find the offender responsible and bring him to justice, while a number of enquiries are ongoing.

“I would urge anyone who may have seen anything around the time of the incident to get in touch.

“Also, I would like to ask anyone who may have captured dashcam or CCTV footage of the suspect to call Cheshire Police on 101.”
