AN NSPCC spokesman has branded the "appalling" crimes convicted paedophile Anthony Churton committed on a girl under 13 as "absolutely unforgivable".

Anthony Churton, 35, from Leigh, was jailed at Bolton Crown Court on Wednesday, September 2 for raping a girl last year.

On November 16, 2019, police were called to a report that a girl had been raped.

Churton initially denied the allegations in an interview with detectives but was caught out following DNA evidence.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of rape of a girl under 13.

He was sentenced to nine years by a judge at Bolton Crown Court.

An NSPCC spokesperson said: “Churton’s appalling crimes against this vulnerable young girl are absolutely unforgivable.

“We hope she is receiving the support she needs, and commend her courage in supporting the investigation that ensured Churton faced the justice he deserved.

"We would urge anyone who has experienced sexual abuse to speak out and seek support, no matter when it happened.”
