THE Mayor of Warrington has laid a wreath at the Cenotaph to mark the 75th anniversary of VJ Day.
Cllr Wendy Johnson was joined by Mayoress Beverley Hallam and Warrington Borough Council’s ‘armed forces champion’ Cllr Graham Friend as she honoured the soldiers of the Second World War on Bridge Foot this morning, Saturday.
She said: “It’s vital that we never forget the bravery of all those who fought in the Second World War.
“The 75th anniversary commemorations of VE Day and VJ Day have given us all the opportunity to honour our fallen soldiers and ensure their memory lives on.
“It was a privilege to lay a wreath at our beautifully-restored war memorial as a symbol of our continued respect and gratitude for all those who sacrificed so much for us.”
