Two Vauxhalls crashed into each other yesterday evening after police pursued a driver for not wearing a seat belt.
The driver was spotted in Horwich and led a police chase resulting in the crash, he then made his escape through nearby fields only to be caught with the help of police helicopters.
It was then discovered that he only held a provisional licence and the car was on false plates.
Officers found £1,500 in cash and £4,000 in drugs inside the Astra and at a related address.
In a Tweet Greater Manchester Police Traffic said: "Tried to speak to the driver of the Astra about his lack of a seat belt, but the driver had other ideas.
"Pursued from Horwich the car would collide with another Astra on Chorley Old Road.
"Male made off into the fields and was detained with the help of the National Police Air Service North West.
"The male was found to be a provisional licence holder. Car was on false plates.
"Located in the car and a subsequent house search was over £1,500 in cash and over £4,000 in drugs."
