ROAD closures have been in place today, Wednesday, after a huge lorry became stuck on a bridge.

The wagon – which appeared to be transporting a crane – was blocking the Cross and New Road in Lymm after becoming lodged on the road surface while attempting to cross the Bridgewater Canal.

The road was closed for more than four hours before reopening at around 2.54pm.

Warrington Borough Council's highways department worked to remove the blockage, with police on scene assisting with traffic management.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "At 10.11am, officers were called to the Cross in Lymm following reports of a HGV stuck on a canal bridge."
