AMID the 'new normal' and unfamiliarity of Super League's return, it's good to see some things never change as Blake Austin showed for Warrington Wolves against Hull KR on Saturday.
Although it might not occur to those who have never been a kicker in a rugby team, there's good reason why blades of grass have been picked and thrown in the air on pitches across the globe from junior to elite level for donkeys years - as captured perfectly with Austin here in Mike Boden's picture taken at Headingley on Saturday.
Watching the way the grass falls is the most common way for a player to gain an indication of which way the wind is blowing so that a kicker can account for the assist the ball might receive when it leaves the boot.
It's nice to see tradition living on in an otherwise ever changing world.
Meanwhile, Austin has revealed he is holding a competition for all Wire members with one lucky fan set to become the owner of a jersey worn by Australian legend Jonathan Thurston and signed by the former Kangaroos Test scrum half himself.
Austin says all members' names are going into a draw as a thank-you for all the loyal support being shown during these difficult times.
More than three-quarters of members have elected not to ask for a refund on this year's season ticket, despite almost five months of postponements and the return to action behind closed doors.
