AN Inspirational nine-year-old has been presented with a special award for her kind and selfless efforts throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Macy Owen, from Grappenhall, received a Chief Executive’s Award at Warrington Hospital after her ‘Macy’s Rainbows’ fundraising campaign passed the £12,000 mark.

The campaign sees her making and selling handmade beaded rainbows, with money raised going towards acquiring items from Warrington and Halton Hospitals’ Charity’s Amazon Wish List and sensory equipment such as toys and lights.

She has also been able to fund treats and care packages for frontline NHS staff and patients.

Prof Simon Constable, chief executive of Warrington and Halton Hospital Trust, presented Macy with an award certificate, personal thank you letter and gifts alongside Warrington South MP Andy Carter at the children’s unit’s outdoor play area.

But not content with what she has been able to raise so far, generous Macy took the time to hand out friendship packs to hospital staff before receiving her award, which she described as ‘magical’.

Warrington Guardian:

“On behalf of our patients and staff, I wanted to personally thank Macy for the incredible donations we have received,” Prof Constable said.

“They are making such a difference to us all and have certainly made life better during this challenging time. We think you are magical too Macy.”

Macy was joined at the presentation by her mum Lindsay, dad Don and younger brother Dylan.

Since starting her campaign, she has also received a Point of Light award from Prime Minister Boris Johnson and more than 6,000 people have joined her Facebook group.
