THE rate of coronavirus infection is on the rise in some parts of Cheshire, new figures have revealed.

Data for the seven days up to August 3 shows the number of new weekly cases per 100,000 people in each English local authority, with more recent days excluded as the data is not yet complete.

It shows that in Cheshire East – which includes Knutsford, Wilmslow and Middlewich – the weekly rate increased from 3.1 in the week up to July 27, to 8.1 in the week up to August 3.

That is a higher rate than in Wigan, which is currently subject to stricter lockdown rules, but it is some way behind the other Greater Manchester boroughs where new Covid-19 cases are more prevalent.

However, in Cheshire West – which includes Northwich and Winsford – the rate decreased over the same time period from 6.7 to 5.5.

Elsewhere in Cheshire, the rate increased sharply in Halton from 1.5 to 9.3, while Warrington saw a slight increase from 3.3 to 3.8.

The figures are based on ‘pillar one’ tests carried out in laboratories and ‘pillar two’ tests in the wider community.

The list has been calculated by the Press Association news agency and is based on Public Health England data.

Below is the list in full, showing the local authority followed by the latest rate of Covid-19 infection and the number of new cases in the week up to August 3 in brackets.

It also shows the rate of infection for the week up to July 27, followed by the number of new cases in that week in brackets.
