A CAKE stall which opened in Warrington’s Golden Square just before lockdown is proving a hit with shoppers again.

Cake Box is a franchise taking over the nation and it has finally arrived at Golden Square thanks to husband and wife duo Jag and Mani Aulakh.

Specialising in fresh cakes and cream-slices, cheesecakes, cupcakes and birthday cakes and much more, all the recipes are adapted without egg to create lighter, less dense cakes.

The unit opened in Warrington town centre just before lockdown was called back in March, with all the fresh cakes donated to the maternity ward at Warrington Hospital, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool and Blackburn Hospital.

Warrington Guardian:

Mani, who first brought the brand to Blackburn three years ago with her husband, said: “It was going so well and then lockdown came.

“Customers fed back that they really missed the cakes and were happy to see us back.

“We made the decision at the start of lockdown to stop production until the centres were open again.

“It has been going really well since we reopened.

“The chocolate sponge seems to be really popular but we have also seen a lot of interest in our celebration cakes.

“It seems like people want to celebrate occasions after all the lockdown.

“We have also seen regular customers dropping by for their weekly slice of cake.”

Safety is also paramount at the stall.

Mani said staff wear full PPE when making the cakes and on the stalls, with just one staff member on at a time to help.

There are also screens and markers on the floor to help with social distancing.

“We are happy to be back and are looking forward to giving everyone their piece of cake when they need it,” she said.
