Altrincham Market-style artisan foodhall now set to open in Northwich

The market hall, which is set to be based at the former J&S Motorcycle store in London Road next to Waitrose, received planning approval from Cheshire West and Chester Council in October last year.

That was despite initial concerns from some councillors who believed it may work to the detriment of other businesses in the town centre.

Now it appears that the plans are being put into fruition as signage has now appeared on the building.

The signs read ‘Expect the unexpected’ and ‘Artisan Market Foodhall’ as well as stating the venture would be ‘coming soon’.

A website address for ‘20 London Road’ is also listed, where curious foodies can find out more.

The website states that the market hall would be opening in the third quarter of 2020, which is July, August and September.

The website reads: “20 London Road is a new food hall in Northwich, Cheshire offering a diverse range of food stalls, all under one roof. Our chefs create menus that use fresh local seasonal produce to ensure we offer a wonderful experience.

“Who doesn’t love to eat out? There is always something exciting about being able to choose exactly what you fancy at that moment and for it to appear soon after, as if by magic, in front of you. The smells, the sounds and the people you are with all add to the sense of drama. This isn’t just a meal. It’s an experience.

“Our chefs work closely with local farmers, producers and growers, it means everything is as fresh as it can be. We love building relationships and the community spirit filters through our venue, you may see on our menu ‘farmer ditchfield beef or allotment salad’ those suppliers become our customers too.”

Traders currently listed include those serving steak, pizza, street food, seafood, tapas, bread and cakes, cheese, wine, craft beer and gin.

When the application was going through the planning process, a statement submitted from the applicant said that the market hall’s food operators could serve up to 200 customers, with the café a further 40, and the complex would create 42 jobs.

It said: “The proposed Artisan Market use is a distinctive concept of small ‘boutique’ food offerings within an attractively presented shared space and is a form of development not found in Barons Quay or elsewhere in the town centre.

“The proposal would provide an appropriate use in this town centre location, occupying an existing building which has been vacant since 2010.”
