PLANS to open a takeaway in Penketh are set to be discussed by councillors tomorrow, Wednesday.

Developers are looking to open the takeaway in a vacant shop on Warrington Road which was formerly home to an off licence and a bridal shop.

However it has been vacant for some time.

The application will be debated at Wednesday's development management committee which will be held virtually.

The unit would open until 11pm from Monday to Saturday and until 10.30pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

Penketh ward councillors Linda Dirir, David Keane and parish councillor Craig Leniham all requested the application be heard by councillor as Penketh has 'far too many takeaways' anyway.

They also added concerns there was insufficient parking at the front of the shop and would lead to 'dangerous parking on the A562'.

Penketh Parish Council also objected saying parking is a 'major concern'.

The objection continued: "Odours and smells are a concern as this is a residential area, this area already has litter problems from other units and the provision of a hot food takeaway would make the matter worse.

"Noise would be a concern from refrigeration units, deliveries, customers late at night and possible anti-social behaviour, it is believed health and safety would be at risk.

"On a further note current obesity rates are climbing and concerns were made to proximity of another hot food take out to local schools."

Ten objections were also raised by neighbours.

The application has been recommended for approval by planning officers.
