KNUTSFORD Community Clinic received an unexpected piece of the town’s nursing history in the post.

A wooden collection box labelled – Knutsford Nursing Association – For the Nurse Fund - was sent to the community clinic in Bexton Road.

The donation box dates from the early 1930s, and was sent by a man from north Wales who discovered it while sorting through his father’s belongings.

The donation box will be put on show at the community clinic office.

“The gentleman who sent us the box found it when he was having a clearout at his father’s house,” said community matron Jane Bayley.

“He didn’t want to dispose of the box, and thought he would send it to us. It was a lovely surprise.

“His great grandmother was a district nurse in Stalybridge in the 1930s, and he thinks she obtained the box during her career.

“We want to look after it because it’s a bit of the town’s history, so we’re going to keep it in the office and put in on show.

“We’ve got some patients we visit who were nurses when they were working, so we would like to take it and show them as well.”

Jane would be interested to know about the history of the Knutsford Nursing Association, and anyone who can help can write to her at the community clinic.
