TRIBUTES have been paid to a ‘wonderful husband and brilliant father’ who died after a serious assault outside a Screwfix store.

Andrew Webster passed away aged 51 earlier this month, nearly a week after the incident on Gateway 49 Trade Park in Bewsey.

Now his wife Lisa has paid tribute to the ‘hard-working’ builder, who also leaves behind his young daughter Ruby and two daughters Charlene and Annie from his previous marriage.

Warrington Guardian:

In a statement, she said: “Andy was such a strong, brave, wonderful husband, but more so he was a brilliant father – he made us feel safe and secure, and built our family a great future.

“He worked hard as a builder, always perfecting every job he completed – he was never scared of a hard day’s work and could always be found perfecting his garage or working on his next project.

“Andy was so well thought of in the town and so many called upon him for help and advice, whether that be personal or business.

Warrington Guardian:

“Ruby was the apple of his eye and Andy loved nothing more than spending quality time with her, whether that be on the back of one of his motorbikes or on their annual dad and daughter trips abroad.

“He loved his motorbikes – he had such a burning ambition to race, just recently he had put a small race team together and was excited for the first event.

“Words cannot describe how much we miss him and how much of a hero he is to us.

“Our time was cut short, but we can still feel his love and loyalty and his many stories will be forever told by all who knew him.”

Warrington Guardian:

Mr Webster was rushed to Aintree Hospital after the serious assault at around 10am on Thursday, July 2.

An air ambulance was called to the scene on Kerfoot Street, and he had been in a critical condition before he died as a result of a head injury on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 8.

Warrington Guardian:

A 24-year-old man was previously arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident, but was later released on bail pending further enquiries by the force.

Cheshire Police have appealed for a possible witness to the incident who detectives have not yet spoken to to come forward in order to assist with their ‘homicide’ investigation.

Warrington Guardian:

He is described as being white with a greying beard and dark hair, while he was wearing a dark blue zip-up jacket and a dark blue t-shirt with a lighter coloured logo across the chest.

CCTV footage showed him walking across the car park in the direction of Screwfix and waiting near the entrance before officers and paramedics arrived, before leaving up to half an hour later.

Floral tributes have been left at the store – which was closed following the assault, with a forensics tent set up outside.

Warrington Guardian:

Mr Webster’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the force on 101, quoting incident number IML744483, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
