A POPULAR restaurant and takeaway in Witton Street is hoping to attract more diners by holding an alcohol licence.

Sunny BBQ has been offering Portuguese cuisine to Northwich residents for almost three years, building up a loyal following in the process.

But Tiago Soares and Nikoletta Kovacs, the couple who run it, are hoping to get more diners enjoying their food inside the premises by offering wine and beers to go with it.

Tiago said: “A lot of our customers say they wish to eat in the restaurant, but that the kind of food we have is good with beer or wine.

“Most order their food for delivery so they can have their food with beer and wine – so we decided it is time to do it.”

Cheshire West and Chester Council is set to make a decision on whether Sunny BBQ can begin selling alcohol.

The business has been popular during lockdown as a take-away, but Nikoletta admits she is keen to see things go back to normal as much as possible.

“It just needs to come back to normal because things have been very hard for people,” she said.

“We are lucky because we have been working but many people in lockdown have been struggling.”

Portuguese Tiago and Nikoletta, from Hungary, have lived in Northwich for 13 years and are soon due to have their second child here.

Nikoletta added: “We like Northwich – it is a nice, quiet town and we know a lot of nice people here.”
