CORONAVIRUS restrictions have unfortunately led to many wedding plans being put on hold this spring, but some couples were fortunate enough to walk down the aisle just before lockdown.

Whether it was the perfect memorable occasion or there were a few mishaps along the way, the lucky brides and grooms have been sharing their wedding stories in their own words.

How did you meet?

Laura: Mark and I met online on Plenty of Fish.

It was a coincidence that Mark was friends with one of my best friend’s husbands, and we didn’t realise until we met in March 2015.

The proposal

Mark proposed on February 11, 2017 at home.

He was going to take me along the river in Chester but he was too nervous and was scared he’d drop the ring in the river.

So after he proposed we went for a romantic meal at Joseph Benjamin in Chester, our favourite city.

Before the wedding

We had the wedding booked for three years and it was plain sailing and stress free.

The week before and the 48 hours leading up to it was hectic to say the least.

Every phone call we got we were expecting bad news, waiting for either the venue to cancel or the registrar, as lockdown was creeping up.

The big day

On the morning of the wedding we couldn’t quite believe we had made it.

We were both excited and nervous as it was always in the back of our minds as to what else could possibly happen.

I stayed at home with my bridesmaids and maid of honour, and Mark stayed at the venue with his groomsmen.

I still couldn’t believe it was going ahead until I got to the end of the aisle and I was about to marry the love of my life.

It was the longest week of our lives and here we were, and despite a few guests dropping out it was all we ever dreamed of.

The people that mattered were there, apart from both our granddads.

Mark and I are forever grateful to the guests that made our wedding day so special.

The Crabwall Manor staff were absolutely amazing from start to finish.

On the evening of our wedding, lockdown was announced.

Everything that was happening on the outside world was forgotten about for 24 hours.

We were in our own little bubble and were having the best day.

Our friends who were there in the evening made it ever so special for us and partied like it was their last night out for a while.

A lockdown honeymoon

Our honeymoon was initially booked for Majorca with Tui, which was cancelled the week before.

My mum then booked for us to go the Lake District for five days, and the day before we were due to go hotels were closed.

So we spent our honeymoon at home and in the garden, enjoying married life as best we could, doing jobs around the house and lots of walks.

One of the good things to come out of lockdown is that we’re happy and healthy and we bought a puppy.

The new addition to our family is Minnie the cavachon and she really has changed our lives.
