FIREFIGHTERS have spent more than 24 hours tackling a barn fire.

Crews from Warrington, Lymm, Stockton Heath, Birchwood, Penketh and Northwich fire stations have been fighting the fire on Nook Lane and Antrobus since the early hours of Saturday.

And some remain on the scene now,

When they arrived just after 2am on Saturday, they discovered two barns well alight.

Crews used four hose reel jets to help tackle the fire and prevent it spreading to a number of other nearby buildings.

Firefighters also moved bales of hay and farm equipment from the building and isolated the electricity at the site.

One of the barns was structurally unsafe so crews allowed the fire to burn in a controlled manner.

One crew from Lymm arrived at the site at 8.30am today Sunday, to relieve  crews.

Firefighters are continuing to use a 45mm jet to cool the site, they are also liaising with the owner of the barn to plan a safe demolition of the building.
