A THEATRE company based in Warrington will bring the curtain down on their Local Legends series, which has shared residents’ stories to raise money for three local charities.

Not Too Tame, which set up shop in the town last year, finishes its 18-part series tonight, Friday, at 8:15pm – having featured a performance of ‘Elegy’ by Maxine Peake.

The project has also featured Happy Valley’s Julie Hesmondhalgh and Brookside’s John McArdle.

And all of the films are available to watch online now.

Jimmy Fairhurst, Not Too Tame artistic director, said: “I’m really proud for those names to represent Not Too Tame – it’s a big thing.

“We want to celebrate our own communities and champion those fighting on the front line during this Covid chaos and this is Not Too Tame's way of doing that.”

Fairhurst, raised in Burtonwood, also said the series has had a huge impact on viewers: “Maxine’s [performance] was about loss of life due to Covid, and a couple of people that I knew got in touch saying how one of their immediate family had passed, and how moving and touching it was.

“That’s when you realise just how personal these things are.”

Local Legends has also supported St Rocco’s Hospice, Warrington Foodbank, and the Warrington Wolves Charity Foundation.

Viewers are being encouraged to donate for the final performance, with Neil Kelly, Foundation Director of Warrington Wolves adding: "Naturally we are proud to be associated with such a lovely way of telling real stories of our day to day heroes.

“We meet and work with heroes everyday and it is amazing to celebrate in this way which inspires but makes you laugh. The best medicine in times like these."
