A WOMAN attacked her mother with a vodka bottle and then kicked an officer in the testicles when police attended their home.

Kali Smith, 22, lived with her mother in Newton Hall, Durham, at the time of the incident on February 23.

Durham Crown Court, sitting at Newcastle, heard that at about 7pm, Smith's mother tried to remove a bottle of vodka from her as she slept.

She woke up and shouted "give it me back, you b*itch" before striking her mother on the back of the head with the bottle and punching her several times.

Police were called and when two officers attended, Smith attempted to jump out of a window. She was brought inside but was abusive towards both officers, kicking one in the testicles.

Ayesha Smart, mitigating, said Smith's mental health had been at a very low point and she used alcohol to try to cope.

She was remorseful, accepts alcohol is not an appropriate coping strategy and two weeks in custody on remand had been a harrowing eye-opener for her, she added.

Now living with her father, in Carlton Close, Chester-le-Street, she said Smith wanted to get support for her issues.

Judge Ray Singh imposed a 12 month custodial sentence for the ABH charge and two months for assault on an emergency worker, suspended for two years.

She must complete 14 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days and pay a victim surcharge.
