VISITOR restrictions based on residents’ car registration plates have been dropped at Knutsford tip from today, June 5.

Cheshire East Council had been using a system of allowing visitors on alternate days based on whether they had an odd or even number plate.

But that system has been scrapped, while both cars with trailers and vans with a valid permit can also now visit the household waste recycling centre from today.

Social distancing measures are still being maintained, however, and residents are being asked to be patient ahead of any possible queues.

Other restrictions include:

  • A one in, one out system with traffic management in place
  • Vehicles must be parked at least two metres from the next one
  • No more than two people in the vehicle and no children on-site, although they can remain in a car if they cannot stay at home
  • Site staff cannot help with heavy lifting or unloading
  • Proof of address may be required to prevent visitors from outside the borough
  • Waste from households containing people with Covid-19 symptoms should be double bagged and left for 72 hours before being brought on-site
  • Anyone using abusive language or intimidating behaviour will be asked to leave.

Residents are still being urged to only travel to the site if it is essential and the waste cannot be safely stored at home until a later date.

The tip is open from 8.30am to 5pm, seven days a week.
