WARRINGTON South MP Andy Carter has responded after being accused of ‘hiding criticism’ on social media.

A number of residents have claimed Mr Carter has been removing negative or critical comments on his Facebook page.

One says that the Tory politician has been busy ‘hiding criticism’.

Mr Carter said having to moderate comments for ‘abuse and misinformation’ is not what he should be doing at a time when ‘we should all still be focusing on the remaining weeks’ of the coronavirus pandemic.

He added: “My personal Facebook page is there to inform and provide the most up to date information from ministerial departments and the latest news from within the local community here in Warrington.

“It is a real shame that on occasion people (not just from the Warrington area) feel it is necessary to be aggressive and rude, as well as spread misinformation.

“This is often not only directed at me but at other constituents with genuine questions and issues.

“I think that at a time like this, when politics should be put aside, we should all talk civilly to each other and look for constructive solutions.

“MPs are real people and I, along with many other Members of Parliament from across the political spectrum, have received some vile abuse over the past couple of months and, while I do have thick skin, we are all human beings at the end of the day.”
