A TEMPORARY COVID-19 testing station is to be set up at Eccleston Park on the site of the former golf club car park.

Owners of the land have confirmed that the Government has selected the site to be used as a temporary testing station for COVID-19 and from Wednesday of this week (June 3), teams will start work on setting up the facility.

The land, formerly Eccleston Park golf course, is currently the subject of a public consultation over plans to develop homes for families, accommodation for the over-55s, and provide local affordable housing on the site. The proposal includes a health centre, infrastructure improvements and additional local amenities.

Plans for the site were announced in May

Following an initial offer of help to the NHS by the Eccleston Park Village land-owners, the Government has now selected the site for a ‘drive-in, drive-out’ testing centre as it rolls out hundreds of temporary stations across the country.

Eccleston Park Village’s Andy Brown said: “At the very beginning of the COVID-19 crisis we approached our local NHS to offer our support and now the Government has asked to use the former golf club car park area as a temporary COVID-19 testing station – one of hundreds that are being set up across the country.

“Given the importance of the work for both the local community and the nation, we have, of course, agreed to this request to help, and from Wednesday of this week, testing teams will be starting work to set up the testing station.

“We appreciate that this is going to mean additional traffic in and out of the site but given the need for us all to pull together during these challenging times, we feel confident that this is the right decision for the local community. This facility will help to save lives and we are proud to support this important work.”
