THERE have been no new cases of coronavirus recorded in St Helens again in the latest daily figures.

Public Health England data shows that, since the start of the outbreak in mid-March, 750 people have been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 by 9am on Sunday morning (May 31) in St Helens.

The figure has been revised down from 752 in midweek and 751 on Saturday.

A week before, there were 747 cases.

There have been no new cases recorded in St Helens since Tuesday's figures.

There remains the possibility there are people in the community with the virus who are not showing symptoms and have therefore not been tested.

However, the figures, coming ahead of a further easing of the lockdown, appear to suggest the infection rate is continuing to fall in St Helens, although local public health leaders remain cautious and do not want to be drawn on a local R-rate, instead looking at cases on a regional level.

While St Helens did not record any cases over the weekend, the rate of increase across the UK was two per cent.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.

Across the UK, 274,762 people had tested positive for coronavirus as of 9am on Sunday, up from 269,127 at the same point on Thursday, Department of Health and Social Care figures show. As of 5pm on Saturday, 38,489 had died.
