FIVE arrests were made after fighting broke out amid a huge police presence in the town centre last night.

Officers were called to the Verve on Mersey Street shortly after 9pm yesterday, Thursday, after receiving reports of an altercation.

Warrington Guardian:

They arrested two women from Warrington, aged 18 and 19, a 21-year-old man from the town and an 18-year-old woman from Runcorn on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident.

The 19-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance after suffering minor injuries, but has since been discharged.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl from Warrington was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

All three women have received conditional cautions over the incident, while the girl has been released under investigation.

But the man, Ryan Fothergill, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and as public order offence.

Fothergill, of Mersey Street, has been released on bail ahead of an appearance before Warrington Magistrates Court in July.
